HYDERABAD: The 48-hour Deeksha launched by the Telangana Congress public representatives at Indira Park received widespread political support on Thursday, the last day of the hunger strike.TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao (MP) and his party leaders E Rajender and T Harish Rao (MLAs) and former MP G Vinod, and suspended TDP legislator Nagam Janardhan Reddy and his followers K Hareeshwar Reddy, S Venugopala Chary and J Ramanna (all MLAs) expressed their solidarity with the fasting Congress leaders.KCR, wearing Congress party’s scarf around his neck, drew people’s attention at the venue. Besides, there is tremendous response from the crowd which included hundreds of followers of the Congress leaders from all the 10 Telangana districts as soon as KCR and Nagam arrived on the dais.It appeared that senior Telangana Congress leaders K Jana Reddy and K Keshava Rao were not happy with the presence of KCR on the stage as they thought that the TRS chief would hog the limelight and steal credit for the fight for Telangana. They even did not oblige Nagam’s request that all those present on the dais stand and hold hands together in a show of unity. They and their party colleagues simply raised their hands in support of separate Telangana state.Several Telangana ministers attended the Deeksha again on Thursday only to slip out after a few hours as they did the day before. Apart from Ramreddy Venkat Reddy who did not visit the camp even on the first day, Thursday’s absentees included P Sabitha Reddy, P Sudershan Reddy and P Shankar Rao. Those made it included K Jana Reddy, B Saraiah, K Venkat Reddy, P Lakshmaiah, J Geeta Reddy, V Sunitha Laxma Reddy, DK Aruna and D Sridhar Babu. In all, 12 of the 15 Telangana ministers resigned from their posts for the T cause. At one stage, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar, on knowing that minister DK Aruna was leaving the venue, made a sudden announcement that she would address the gathering. He even asked his partymen to contact her on phone and urge her to come on the stage and make a speech. But, she ignored the plea.As for T Congress MLAs and MLCs, the number of participants has decreased marginally on the second day. In all, 18 MLAs and six MLCs were present as against 22 and 10 respectively on Wednesday. As for MPs, almost all nine (G Sukhender Reddy, P Prabhakar, K Rajagopal Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud, G Vivek, S Rajaiah, M Jagannadham, P Balram Naik and K Keshava Rao) were on the stage. Suresh Shetkar, who had also resigned, stayed away. In all, 10 MPs, 33 MLAs and 12 MLCs resigned.Several senior Congress leaders including Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, M Kodanda Reddy, K Ram Reddy, Mohd Fareeduddin, G Vinod, A Indrakaran Reddy, T Jeevan Reddy, Swarna Sudhakar, autorickhaw union leader Amanullah Khan and others also visited the camp to express their solidarity.
