Rubbishing all rumours of resignation from Bharatiya Janata Party, senior leader Jaswant Singh said on Sunday that he will file his nomination papers from Barmer constituency as an independent for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Singh has, however, denied quitting the party. He said, "I am a founding member of this party. Working for the BJP has been an honour. I have worked for the party for so many years. Why should I resign?" There were reports that Singh is likely to quit the party over the denial of the ticket and may contest as an Independent.
He also thanked Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj for extending her support to him. He said, "I am thankful to Sushmaji but she didn't have to say she's saddened. It's clear. It's also clear who is responsible for it."
Sushma had questioned the process through which Singh was denied nomination from the Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha seat. Sushma said, "The decision was not taken in the Central Election Committee meet and I'm personally unhappy with the outcome."
