Jayarajan moves HC against phone tapping

CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan, an accused in the Shukkoor murder case, on Wednesday approached the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to the state to conduct a proper inquiry into the illegal hacking of his personal and official phones.

Jayarajan submitted that he was questioned by the SIT in the Shukkoor murder case. However, the SIT tapped his personal and office telephones without any authorisation. “Telephone tapping is a violation of the constitutional guarantees contained in Articles 19(1)(a) and 21 and transgression of his right to privacy,” the petitioner pointed out. He sought a directive to restrain the police from continuing the illegal activities.

The petitioner also sought a directive to declare that the tapping of telephones without resorting to statutory safeguards was illegal and unconstitutional.
