New Delhi: Janata Dal (Secular) president H D Deve Gowda on Saturday suspended 40 MLAs of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, including his son and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, from the primary membership of the party.
The MLAs have been suspended on charges of anti-party activities and the matter has been referred to the National Executive Committee, which is to hold a meeting in New Delhi, on the February 21.
Gowda has communicated the decision to suspend the 40 MLAs to party vice president Bapu Kaldate.
Meanwhile, the suspended MLAs need not press the panic button as yet. Reason? Suspension does not mean expulsion. Decision regarding future disciplinary action against the 40 MLAs will be taken during the Committee meeting.
Gowda, who resigned as president of the party last month following the the political developments in the state, had withdrawn his resignation on public demand, party sources said.
