Jammu: Two persons was killed while one was missing and suspected to be trapped under heaps of snow as an avalanche struck Gurez area near the Line of Control in Bandipora district of Kashmir.
"An avalanche occurred at Badwan Gurez resulting in the death of two persons and one person is still missing", Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla told the Assembly on Tuesday night while making a statement on cyclonic storm that hit Jammu and Kashmir.
A civilian vehicle carrying five persons, including the driver, was caught in the avalanche which struck at around 7:00 pm on Monday evening, on Kanzalwan road in Gurez, 124 kms from Jammu, a defence spokesman said.
Three persons were pulled out alive from under the snow by a joint rescue team of civil administration and army while two were dead and one was still missing.
