Srinagar: Indian Army on Tuesday ordered enquiry into the Budgam firing incident which left two dead and two injured. A Deputy Sector Commander has been appointed as the incharge of the enquiry team.
All those believed to be involved in the firing incident have been shifted to the location of enquiry for questioning. Core Commander 15 Core has assured a time bound probe and exemplary punishment to those found guilty in the case.
As both the victims hail from Budgam, the security forces has been enhanced to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the region in wake of Muharram.
With the code of conduct in effect for the J&K polls, the ruling National Congress wants the Election Commission to grant permission to the state government to conduct a probe too. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted that this incident has only vitiated the poll atmosphere in the state.
The Army and Defence Minister had on Monday expressed regret in the killing of the two civilians. "The Budgam incident in the Kashmir valley is highly regrettable. A fair inquiry will be held and action taken against those found guilty," Defence Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted.
An FIR has been filed in the case. The incident took place when Army personnel fired at a Maruti 800 car as it did not stop at a check post on repeated calls.
