New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Justice PD Dinakaran will appear before the Supreme Court collegium on Friday to plead his case following charges of disproportionate assets against him.
The collegium will consist of five Supreme Court judges and will be headed by Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan. The other judges in the collegium are Justices BN Agrawal, SH Kapadia, Tarun Chatterjee and Altamas Kabir.
Justice Dinakaran had been summoned to Delhi by Justice Balakrishnan after allegations of having acquired assets which are not in tune with his know sources of income.
Justice Dinankaran is under pressure from lawyers to come clean on the corruption charges levied against him.
On Thursday Bangalore lawyers association passed a resolution asking Justice Dinakaran not to participate in the court proceedings until the charges against him had been investigated and he was cleared.
This is the second time that a legal body in Karnataka has passed a resolution against a sitting Chief Justice.
Two years ago the Karnataka State Bar Council had called for a boycott of the then Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Cyriac Joseph, for his alleged remarks against advocates.
Meanwhile, senior Supreme Court lawyers Shanti Bhushan, Anil Diwan along with other eminent lawyers will be meeting Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily at the Law Ministry at 1700 hrs IST on the Justice Dinakaran issue.
