New Delhi: Justice Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu is likely to be the next Chief Justice of India, government sources said on Wednesday.
Sources confirmed that the file has been sent to Rashtrapati Bhawan for President Pranab Mukherjee's approval.
Dattu is presently a judge in the Supreme Court. He will replace CJI RM Lodha who will retire on the 27th of September.
Justice Dattu will take over at a time when the Narendra Modi government has brought in the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill that does away with the collegium system of appointing judges.
