The state government would study the demands of various organisations of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, on not hiring people for vacant posts till the amendment to Article 371 [J] of the Constitution becomes an Act, said Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here on Sunday.
He agreed with that with permanent recruitment now, people of the region would be deprived of the benefits of the proposed amendment.
Shettar said that he would collect the information about the vacancies in various departments and check whether they could be filled on contract basis till the amendment rules were framed.
He expressed his gratitude to the Union government for its initiative to table the draft Bill on Article 371 in Parliament by passing it in the Political Affairs Committee Meeting and the Union Cabinet.
Shettar said that he was confident that Bill would be passed with two thirds majority.
“Once the Bill becomes an Act, the state government would frame rules making provision of reservation in employment and education and for establishing statutory board for infrastructure development of the region,” he said.
Misquoted by Media
When asked about his controversial statement on bringing pressure on the Union government to include Bijapur district under the ambit of amendment to Article 371, Shettar said that he was misquoted by the media.
Shettar explained that while he was attending a function in Bijapur a few weeks ago, some organisations presented a memorandum to him on this issue.
He told them that he would look at the memorandum and do as much as possible.
He agreed that Bijapur is a backward district.
He denied that the state government had failed to utilise funds given by the Centre to tackle drought.
Besides Karnataka, many states have failed to utilise the funds given under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act because of the guidelines, he informed.
