KOCHI: Former Judge Justice K K Usha said that if given opportunities, women would utilise them to come to the helm of affairs.Inaugurating the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Ladies Forum and interactive session on Women Empowerment on Saturday, she said women had been absent from the helm of affairs for a long time even in an advanced country like England. “Women took a long time to come up as entrepreneurs,” she said.Veteran Journalist Leela Menon spoke about the issues faced by women in general and women scribes in particular. When women stand together, they gain strength. She rued the fact that women in Kerala are not at all empowered. “Women do not have any self-respect here. Life is worth living only when we contribute,” she said.Actor and Dancer, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy said she was aware of being a woman in whatever she did. “Women should be helped to develop economic independence. They shouldn’t imitate men but try to maintain their own identity in achieving success.” Lakshmi said.
