Getting into action ever before he took oath of the office and secrecy, Chief Minister designate Arvind Kejriwal on Friday organised 'mohalla sabhas' (locality meeting) in his New Delhi constituency to listen to problems of the common man.
Kejriwal held three 'mohalla sabhas' and assured the people of immediate action on their problems.
Addressing the first public meeting at Valmiki Sadan on Mandir Marg, Kejriwal listened to the problems of the Valmiki community, whose members are mostly employed with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). He asked Secretary of NDMC Vikas Anand, who was also present there, to solve the problems.
"From now onwards, all the problems of the people would be resolved not behind the closed doors but in open, and officials would discuss with the people," Kejriwal said after hearing the problems of the community.
Identifying their problems, he said the community was facing problems due to the contractual system of employment in the NDMC and municipal corporations, people being enrolled in muster rolls for 20 years, denied jobs on compensatory grounds and lack of houses.
He posed these problems to Anand, who said employment was a policy matter which would be looked into during the council's next meeting.
Anand said the present referral system of NDMC, which is not acceptable to the people, would also be take up by the council. For housing, he said people would get accommodation as NDMC would be getting some houses at various places in Delhi.
To this, Kejriwal assured that health facilities and employment issues would be take care of. He said he will bring an end to the contract system in employment of sweepers in the NDMC and other municipal corporations.
He also conducted 'mohalla sabha' in other two places-- DIZ area and Peshwa Road.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Friday visited Mansarovar Park, where the Railways on Thursday brought down 200 jhuggis.
Terming the action "inhumane", Sisodia asked how the Railways could pull down the jhuggis, homes to around 1,000 people, when the residents have aadhar cards, voter identity cards and ration cards in their names.
Earlier, he visited East Vinod Nagar locality and held a meeting with PWD officials and asked them to ensure proper cleanliness of the area, construction and repair of drains and removal of debris lying around in the locality.
He also visited two anganwadi kendras and assessed the situation. There, he tasted the food being served to the children there.
