Khal-Nayak's village still reveres him
Though the tough cop is on the wrong side of the law now, being hunted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, he's still a hero in his village.

Karkala (Karnataka): National Highway 13 leads to the town of Karkala in Udupi district in Karnataka. Further down the road is a small village called Yennehole.

It is here that Daya Nayak was born and spent his childhood before he came to Mumbai, joined the police force and became their top encounter specialist.

The village first made headlines when superstar Amitabh Bachchan paid a visit to innaugurate Daya Nayak's school.

Though the tough cop is on the wrong side of the law now, being hunted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, he's still a hero in his village.

The main reason for this admiration is Nayak's services to the village and the latest turn of events have not shaken their faith in Nayak.

Right in the middle of the village is a school big enough for 400 students, which Daya Nayak built four years ago.

Named after his mother Radha Nayak, the school has come as relief to villagers who had to trek long distances to reach a school.

Nayak's childhood friend, Harish Jain says, "He grew up in poverty here as did all of us. Today he has made it big but he still comes back here now and then. He helps all those in the need of help in the village."

Villagers say Nayak is like God to them because of all he has done for the village.

Daya Nayak's cousin, Gopal Nayak says, "He is my aunt's son. His family is very nice, they support everyone in the village. His mother and his sister keep coming and he does too, even though he is a very busy man."

What would be interesting to see is whether it remains the same if the law gets him.
