MULANTHURUTHY: In the wee hours of Monday thieves entered the sanctum sanctorum of Pangarappilly Kolankulangara temple and decamped with the 'silver golaka' and 'panchaloha' 'thidambu'. Sankaran Namboothiri, the temple priest who reached the temple on Monday morning to open the sanctum sanctorum for routine rituals, noticed the theft and informed the NSS Taluk Union members, the custodians of the temple. When they reached the temple they found that the silver replica and the 'thidambu' missing and informed the Mulanthuruthy Police Station. By 12.30 pm finger print experts reached the spot and collected the preliminary evidence. Later, the 'prabha mandalam' was found abandoned in the temple pond. Kolankulangara temple is the family temple of Pazhoor Paduthol Mana and it was in 2003 that the NSS Taluk Union took over the administration and day-to-day affairs of the temple. The cost of the silver golaka has been put at `75,000. The 'thidambu' is invaluable because of its antique value. The total cost of the stolen golaka and 'thidambu' may amount to `1,75,000. A police team headed by Muvattupuzha DySP Tony Sebastian has started the investigation.
