New Delhi: The much-talked about Indian Badminton League (IBL) conceptualised to popularise the sport got off to a lackluster start here on Wednesday at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.
The opening ceremony of the million-dollar league scheduled for a 6pm start was delayed by an hour. The icon players of the six teams then took the dias and in presence of Badminton Association of India's president Akhilesh Das Gupta took a oath.
After that a laser show and dancers from Norway entertained the sparse crowd present in the stands. The opening ceremony hardly lasted 30 to 45 minutes with playback singer Neeti Mohan concluding it with a Bollywood number.
Moreover, mismanagement ruled the opening day of the league as the volunteers and the event management personnel were clueless about how to go about things. The media present to cover the opening ceremony and the matches had to fend for themselves with hardly any sitting arrangement to get started.
The trophy was unveiled on Tuesday and the league comprising of six teams which starts today and will end on August 31.
