Protesters in Mysore allege Minister has ordered the removal of Kannada name boards in train coaches.

Mysore: Kannada organisations on Monday protested outside the Mysore railway station, alleging that the Railway Minister had ordered the removal of Kannada name boards in train coaches.

The organisations demanded that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav withdraw the order, which they said had hurt the sentiments of the people of the state. They also wanted Union Government to declare Kannada a classical language.

They alleged that Union Ministers and MPs from Karnataka had not protested against the Railway Minister's order.

The organisations demonstrated at the Deputy Commissioner's office in the city against the 'stepmotherly' treatment meted out by the Centre to Kannada.
