Mumbai: The 3D remake of Walt Disney's Lion King is set to hit the Indian theatres ahead of its international release.
The animated film, which was released more than a decade back, will be releasing in India on 29 July whereas it will be releasing in the US on 16 September, 2011.
The Lion King, which was release in 1994, depicts the story of a guilt-ridden lion cub who is tricked into thinking that he killed his father and flees into exile, abandoning his identity as the future King.
The film bagged two Oscars for Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer) and Best Original Song (Elton John/Tim Rice 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight').
The Blu-ray debut marks the first time the animated film has been available in any form since 2004.
"India is a priority market for Walt Disney Studios, we continue to bring best in class content to audiences in India just the way it is consistent across the world. We are thrilled to be releasing Lion King in 3D," said Seshasaye Kanthamraju, Executive Director, Marketing & Distribution, Walt Disney Studios, India.
Other films which found an early release in India, are Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Steven Spielberg's Tintin is also scheduled to hit the screens on 11 November in India, almost a month before its US release date.
