Nagpur: A woman executive, found with an empty cartridge by the security staff at the Nagpur airport, said she carried the bullet as she had "strong sentimental attachment" to it.
Giggles Walia, an MBA working for a Chandigarh-based placement agency Flying Cats, was barred from boarding a flight to Delhi Friday, after the cartridge was found in her bag.
Subjected to scrutiny, first by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel handling the airport security, and then by the police, Walia said she had a "sentimental attachment" with the cartridge as a friend had gifted it to her, Deputy Commissioner of Police Suresh Mekhla said.
“Walia's Dehradun-based friend Anchit Singh Chauhan, whose uncle had originally gifted him the empty cartridge, corroborated her version,” Mekhla added.
Sources said Walia initially told the security staff that it was her father's bag and that she didn't know it contained the cartridge when she put her belongings in it.
“While we let her off after a four-hour long detention and interrogation, I am sending an officer to cross check her statements regarding the cartridge, how it came in her possession and whether Anchit's uncle was authoriesd to use a gun,” Inspector A H Sheikh said.
The bullet, anyway, was empty.
