New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Saturday that it will revoke the diplomatic passport of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Member of Parliament (MP) Ramakant Yadav.
Ramakant is one of the two MPs who were exposed by CNN-IBN for giving false information in their passport documents, the other being Bal Chadra Yadav, MP, Khalilabad.
Ramakant, a three-time MP from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, was issued the passport No. D 1107397 on April 28 this year, after he lodged an FIR claiming that he had lost his old passport No. D 1102702 on April 2.
But an investigation revealed that Ramakant was lying as his original passport was lying at the Candian High Commission awaiting a visa since October 2003.
Also the photograph of Ramakant's wife, Ranjana, sent along with her visa application form was found to be a computer-generated image.
The original photo of Ramakant Yadav's wife, dug out by the MEA, did not match the one submitted to the High Commission.
Official of the external affairs ministry said that the isssue had proved to be a major embarrassment as they had issued him a duplicate passport without cross-checking their records.
Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran who returns from the US on Saturday night will get the details of the case from Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday.
On Friday, after the historic decision by Parliament to expel 11 of its members in the cash-for-question scam, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee had ordered an inquiry into the case.
Although, with Parliament in recess, the Speaker will be spending much of his time in Kolkata, but he will be closely following the progress in both the cases as the House has shown that it will not take the issue of its members transgressing the law lightly.
