GUNTUR: In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl was brutally murdered by her stepfather at Pedapalakaluru village on the outskirts of Guntur three days ago. The ghastly killing came to light on Thursday after the girl's hostel warden lodged a complaint with the police who, in turn, picked up the stepfather.According to Chebrolu circle inspector N Satyanarayana, the girl, Sare Poojitha, was studying Class III and staying at the SC Welfare Hostel at Kothareddypalem in Chebrolu mandal. She was picked up by her step father, Venkatappa Rao, from the hostel on January 3 without the knowledge of warden Y Venkateswaramma as well as the girl's mother Arogyarani.He smashed the girl's head with a boulder and threw the body in an abandoned drainage canal near Pedapakaluru. Police said that the hostel warden grew suspicious over the girl's missing and lodged a complaint with the police. During the investigation, the police found that Venkatappa Rao killed the girl and took him into custody on Wednesday. He is learnt to have admitted to killing the girl and taken the police to the place where he had done her to death. The body was sent for postmortem.It is learnt that the girl's mother, Arogyarani, had been divorced by her first husband and she married a labourer, Konda Venkatappa Rao, last year. The couple are living at Mutluru village in Vatticheruru mandal.They have been feuding over the past a few months as Rao's demand that his wife send away her two daughters, whom she had by her first husband, to a hostel so that the couple could have privacy. But the wife did not agree to the demand. Enraged, Venkatapparao decided to eliminate both the stepdaughters.
