A body of a woman was found in a suitcase dumped in Chennai’s Thoraipakkam area on Thursday morning. The police suspect that she was murdered elsewhere and the suitcase carrying her body was dumped in the residential area adjoining the IT Corridor in Thoraipakkam.
The Toraipakkam Police recovered the severed body parts of the woman from the suitcase, following which an investigation was launched.
A man named Manikandan from Sivaganga district has been arrested in connection to the case, Times of India reported. As per the preliminary investigation, the woman has been identified as a 32-year-old Deepa alias Vellaiammal from Madhavaram.
During the questioning, Manikandan told police that he murdered her using a hammer over a dispute regarding money. He also informed that he severed her body parts and dumped in a suitcase.
Manikandan reached out to Deepa, a sex worker, through a broker, and she went to Thoraipakkam on Wednesday, Time of India quoted police as saying.
Reportedly, after Deepa didn’t return home, her brother tried to reach her mobile, which was turned off. He then tracked her mobile phone and found out that she was last spotted near Thoraipakkam. He then went to the police station to file his sister’s missing complaint and informed the Thoraipakkam police about Deepa’s location on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, the cops recovered the murdered woman, and her body was found in Thoraipakkam.
The police team then tracked the murderer with the help of a CCTV camera footage.
