CHENNAI: A bike-rider made his way into a shop and snatched the gold chain of its woman owner before escaping with his accomplice at Choolaimedu, on Monday. S Bharathi (34), the victim said, “I was measuring rice inside the room, when I felt somebody standing behind me. When I turned, it was a man, who pulled my gold chain and ran out. I followed him, screaming for help in vain.” A complaint was lodged at the Choolaimedu police station.Gang of Eight HeldCity police arrested a gang of eight persons, including three lorry drivers in Madhavaram, on Monday, for stealing iron rods and selling them. Police said that the gang bought iron rods being transported to companies at a cheaper rate from lorry drivers involved in transportation it and would sell them at higher prices later. Eight-two tonnes of iron rods and three trailer lorries were seized.
