Taking the salute: Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar inspecting the guard of honour during the Independence day parade in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday said the recent attack on the Mangalore homestay and crimes in Bangalore were a matter of concern for the government.

After unfurling the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations here at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, the Chief Minister said, “The law and order situation in the state is good, but recent incidents in Mangalore and Bangalore are a cause for concern. We will ensure that such incidents do not recur.’’

Asserting that maintaining law and order was a priority of his government, Shettar said Mangalore police did a good job by arresting the accused soon after the incident and gave no room for the situation to get out of hand.

Asking people to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and order, Shettar said that due to the number of initiatives taken by the BJP in the state in last four years, the Naxal problem had been brought under control.

Protester held: Police arrested a person, Jayakumar Hiremath, who staged a protest at the I-Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, by throwing pamphlets demanding appointment of Lokayukta.
