With the UPA enjoying no clear majority in the Parliament, Manmohan Singh is only a caretaker Prime Minister, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has said.
Referring to the huge scams plaguing the UPA, Achuthanandan said that there are major allegations of real estate frauds against Robert Vadra, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law.
Coming down on the UPA government for its anti-people economic reforms and the price hike, Achuthanandan said that the Centre has a caretaker Cabinet that does not have the support from the UPA allies. He was inaugurating the P Krishna Pillai Mandiram, the new office building of the Cochin Shipyard Workers Union (CITU) here on Sunday.
He criticised the UDF government here for following the footsteps of the UPA government. “There are major corruption allegations against Robert Vadra. The alleged real estate scams amount to hundreds of crores,” he said.
The recent economic reforms by Manmohan Singh are aimed at pleasing the US government. The FDI in retail sector and foreign investment in insurance and pension sectors are examples, he alleged. “With Trinamool withdrawing its support, the UPA government has become a minority. The NCP and the DMK are not interested in supporting the FDI policy. The price hike has affected the common man severely. The public sector units are in trouble,” he pointed out. CPM district secretary M V Govindan, CITU state president K N Raveendranath, secretary
K Chandran Pillai, Cochin Shipyard Workers Union president N Sathish and secretary N Krishnamoorthy also spoke. M V Govindan distributed gratuity to the employees.
