Mumbai: The police have filed a non-cognisable offence against actor and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan over Wednesday's scuffle at the Wankhade stadium. While the actor insists that he was provoked first, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will meet on Friday to finalise action against him.
Not long after the Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off an edge of the seat win to seal their place in the play offs, franchise co-owner Shah Rukh Khan found himself in the midst of an ugly spat, a spat that may well see the actor banned for life from Mumbai's Wankhede stadium.
In an apparent fit of rage, Shah Rukh khan, the MCA claims, abused and shoved a security guard at the stadium. This, after his entourage that included several children sporting KKR shirts were stopped from stepping on to the field after lights-out.
ACP Iqbal Shaikh said, "We could smell alcohol on him, he was abusive, I tried to drive him away."
Shah Rukh countered the MCA's claims and said, "I was there to protect my children, the security guards were the ones who were aggressive, I saw these guards touching girls not older than 13, I told them to stop."
Hitting back, the actor claimed he was left with little choice.
"Of course I was abusive, what could I have done? I would do it again. It has become fashionable for officials to throw their weight if they see a celebrity," Shah Rukh said.
With nobody injured in the incident though, the police are unlikely to lodge an FIR, but the MCA appears in no mood for a ceasefire.
As the searing heat of May gets to the various stakeholders of the IPL this season, no party it appears is a claimant for the fair play award.
