New Delhi: If a new report from The Verge is to be believed, Microsoft is working on a touch-enabled smartwatch and has asked Asian suppliers to ship components for the device. However, Microsoft has refused to comment on the rumours.
"Microsoft researcher Bill Buxton spoke at length on the 37-year history of smartwatches last month, possibly foreshadowing a return to the market," said The Verge.
It seems that all the major tech companies are endeavouring to come up with their own versions of wearable electronics. Speculations are rife that LG is also working on its own smart wristwatch. Though LG's watch is expected to come powered by Google's Android OS, there are speculations that it could run Mozilla's Firefox OS.
Besides, rumours are doing the rounds that Samsung and Apple are also in the race and may come up with their own versions of the smart wristwatch soon. Samsung is reportedly developing a wearable digital device similar to a wristwatch.
The Samsung device will perform many of the tasks of a smartphone, said a source, without giving further details. The source declined to be identified because Samsung did not want to reveal to the public any information about its new product line at this time.
Last month, the New York Times reported that Apple was experimenting with the design of a device similar to a wristwatch that would operate on the same platform as the iPhone and would be made with curved glass.
