THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Dairy Development K C Joseph said here on Tuesday that the hike in milk prices cannot be avoided.Joseph told reporters that a discussion would be taken after the verdict in the case pending before the High Court.Any decision on the issue can be taken after considering the interest of both the consumers and the milk suppliers, he said. The suppliers were now in dire straits and providing subsidy alone would not solve their problems, he added. The minister also said that the Government should take all measures to protect the producers. He mooted a package for providing wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for those who rear two cows.Joseph, who also holds the charge of the Cultural Department said that appointment to the top posts of cultural bodies will be devoid of any political consideration. He said that he has not asked those appointed by the previous government to resign. However, it was for them to decide on the propriety of continuing in the post. The minister, who also manages the Planning and Economic Affairs department said that the norms of the Central government schemes were not suitable for states like Kerala. The issue has been brought to the notice of Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and he has agreed to consider the demands of Kerala favourably, the Minster added.
