Missing infant found dead in water sump

KARIMNAGAR: A three month- old female infant, who went missing since Wednesday evening, was found dead in a water sump here on Thursday.The incident took place at Bhagatnagar in Karimnagar town.According to sources, the infant’s father, Nooka Ravinder, works in a private company. After Ravinder went out of the house on Wednesday, a person, clad in saffron dress, came to their house and begged for alms. Ravinder’s wife, Swathi, came out of the house to give something to him.The saffron-dressed man allegedly made Swathi fall unconscious.Later, he snatched her ‘managala sutra’ and kidnapped the infant, Cherry, by entering into the house.After sometime, Swathi’s elder daughter, Manusri, came to the house and finding her mother unconscious alerted the owner of their house and their neighbours. Following eff orts by them, Swathi regained her sense.Finding that her ‘mangala sutra’ and the baby were missing, her family members launched a search. Surprisingly, they found the ‘managala sutra’ on the road near their house on Wednesday night itself but could not spot the infant.On Thursday morning, they found their baby in the water sump in their house.Karimnagar sub division OSD (crime) DV Srinivasa Rao told this paper that they registered a kidnap and murder case and that they were inquiring in various angles to nab the accused.
