5:16pm: Congress is set to form government in Mizoram. The party has won 26 seats so far and is leading in five seats in the 40-member state assembly.

4:00 pm: C Ngunlianchunga of Congress has won from the Lawngtlai West seat by 1535 votes. H Rohluna of Congress has won from the Lengteng seat by 167 votes.

3:50 pm: Joseph lalhimpuia of Congress has won from the Tawi seat by 947 votes. R lalzirliana of Congress has won from the Chalfilh seat by 3728 votes.

3:40 pm: Zodintluanga of Congress has won from the Thorang seat by 2504 votes. Lalrinliana Sailo of Congress has won from the Tuichang seat by 2985 votes.

3:30 pm: Congress has won 20 seats and is leading on 9 seats.

1:50 pm : Dr. K. Beichhua of the Mizo National Front has won from the Saiha seat by 222 votes.

1:35 pm: Congress crosses half way mark, wins 12 seats and takes a lead in 10 seats. Data from 13 seats is yet to be reported.

1:20 pm: Heading towards a massive majority, the Congress has won 12 seats way ahead of the MDA which has won 1 seat.

12:50 pm: Congress candidates TT Zothansanga has won from Champhai north constituency while H Rohluna has won from Lengteng constituency.

12:30 pm: PC Lalthanliana, Congress has won from the Lunglei north constituency by 870 votes. Congress dominated the Lunglei south too with S Laldingliana winning by 450 votes

12:15 pm: Mizo National Front candidate Er. Lalrinawma won from Tuikum constituency by a narrow margin by just 14 votes.

12:00 pm: Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla records a victory in both the constituencies that he was contesting from. After Serchhip, he has won from the Hrangturzo seat by 1628 votes.

11:50 am: Congress leader Lalsawta has won from the Aizawl East ii seat defeating MNF's Sailothanga Sailo by 177 votes.

11:38 pm: S. Laldingliana of Congress has won the Lunglei South seat by 450 votes.

11:30 am: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla wins Serchhip seat. He is also leading from Hrangturzo seat.

11:15 am: Trends show that Congress has taken a lead in 12 seats while the BJP is ahead in 2 seats. Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNM) is also leading in 1 seat.

10:20 am :Confident of victory, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said that there was no 'anti-Congress wave' in the state. While MNF has claimed that they will win close to 20 seats, the CM said that MNF could believe in whatever they want, he had "nothing to say."

10:15 am: Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA) is leading in 3 seats. Zoram Nationalist Party has not been able to make an impact as yet.

10:10 am: Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is leading from Serchhip constituency by over 300 seats.

9:50 am: Congress is ahead in 12 seats in the early trends. 21 seats are needed to be in majority in the 40-member seat assembly.

9:20 am: Early trends show Congress taking a lead in 5 seats while the Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA) is ahead in 2 seats.

8:45 pm: The state which is the turf of the Congress is expected to see a dent in the vote share this time around.

8:25 am: The main opponent MNF leader and former chief minister Zoramthanga is trying his luck from Tuipui East seat.

8:15 am: The results would reveal if four-time Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla faced anti-incumbency this time. He contested from two seats - his home turf Serchhip and Hrangturzo.

The Chief Minister is facing tough opposition from C Lalramzauva, an advocate and the Mizoram Democratic Alliance nominee in Serchhip.

8:00 am: Counting of votes for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly begins in the headquarters of all eight districts of the state amidst tight security.

The fate of 142 candidates for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly will be decided as the counting takes place on Monday. After the debacle of the Congress in the Assembly elections in four states - Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh - that were declared on Sunday, it is to be seen whether the results in Mizoram will be a face saver for the party.

The ruling Congress in the state has contested all the 40 seats as has Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA). MDA constituent Mizo National Front (MNF) has contested in 31, Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) in eight and Maraland Democratic Front (MDF) contested in one seat.

Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) fielded candidates in 38 seats while BJP contested 17 seats. Others include 2 NCP candidates, one Jai Maha Bharhat Party and four independents.

Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla of Congress is in the reckoning from his home turf Serchhip and neighbouring Hrangturzo. The main opponent MNF leader and former chief minister Zoramthanga is contesting from Tuipui East seat.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the counting centres in the eight districts.

Director General of Election Commission of India Ashish Srivastava and a number of observers are in the state to supervise and oversee the process.

The election for the 40-member seat Assembly were held on November 25.
