Anaicut MLA M Kalaiarasu appealed to the Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister K P Munusamy on Friday to initiate measures to tackle the acute drinking water problem prevailing in his constituency on a war footing.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister, the MLA made a request to extend the Cauvery drinking water scheme to the Anaicut constituency also. He has also urged the minister to implement the Underground Drainage Scheme for the towns of Odugathur, Pennathur and Pallikonda.
Expressing concern over the dumping of garbage in Saduperi village from Vellore Corporation, Kalaiarasu pointed out that this has affected public health conditions of over 10 villages in the vicinity. He appealed to the minister to take steps for sustained solid waste management.
The MLA also urged the minister to provide a new lease of life to the Otteri tank which used to be the main sources of drinking water.
