The Southwest monsoon has officially arrived in Delhi, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. Delhi witnessed heavy overnight rains on Thursday-Friday, leaving the national capital waterlogged. Many areas in the national capital had roads inundated as visuals of cars and other vehicles submerged in water on roads surfaced.
In its latest forecast, the weather department predicted isolated very heavy rainfall in Delhi and surrounding areas between June 29 and July 1. “Isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on 29th & 30th June, over Punjab on 30th June & 01st July, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during 29th June – 01st July, Uttar Pradesh during 28th – 30th June, over East Rajasthan during 29th June – 02nd July, over Madhya Pradesh on 28th & 29th June, over Odisha on 28th – 30th June,” the IMD said in its forecast today.
The weather department also warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh today. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on June 28 and 30 and over Arunachal Pradesh between June 30 and July 2.
The IMD has said that isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra during the next five days and over the Gujarat region on June 28 and July 1.
Monsoon Status
The Southwest Monsoon has now covered entire Delhi, parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan among other states. “Southwest Monsoon further advanced into some more parts of West Rajasthan, remaining parts of East Rajasthan, some parts of Haryana, entire Delhi, some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh; remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar; some more parts of East Uttar Pradesh and remaining parts of Uttarakhand,” the IMD said.
Monsoon is expected to reach Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu over the next two to three days, the weather department said.
