Mumbai: Police have arrested a 26-year-old man, a tailor by profession, for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl and molesting her. Sayyed Ashraf, who knew the girl, was arrested on Monday and booked for molestation, kidnapping and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, police said.
The accused was working with the father of the 10-year-old victim in his tailor shop, they said. Ashraf asked the girl to accompany him for a walk. He went to Govandi station in suburban Mumbai along with the girl and boarded a Mumbai CST-bound train. The girl was crying continuously in the train which caught the attention of fellow passengers. When they enquired with the girl, she said Sayyed was not allowing her to go home and was taking her somewhere else.
The passengers immediately informed the Railway Police, which passed on the information to the police in Shivaji Nagar, the area where the accused and victim reside. Police arrested Ashraf and rescued the victim.
