HYDERABAD: For reducing congestion at Sanathnagar container terminal, an exclusive terminal for handling domestic container traffic has come up at Nagulapally near Patancheru in 16 acres with rail and road connectivity at a cost of `26 crore.
Speaking at the inauguration of the domestic container terminal on Wednesday, GN Asthana, chief general manager, South Central Railway said the Nagulapally terminal will supplement the Sanathnagar terminal initially and eventually cater to entire container traffic in Hyderabad area. He said domestic container traffic from Hyderabad is about 9001,000 twenty feet equivalent container units per month. Two main streams of traffic are operated from Hyderabad to Delhi and Kolkata. Initially, the Hyderabad to Delhi stream will be operated from Nagulapally. The inland container depot at Sanathnagar handles both international and domestic traffic. But it has certain constraints in relation to limited availability of land for expansion and traffic restrictions on movement of trucks from the depot, according to Asthana.

Anil Kumar Gupta, managing director, Concor said the Nagulapally terminal is wellconnected by road and rail without any traffic restrictions on truck movements. "In first phase, `26 crore has been invested and another `65 crore will be spent for construction of more terminals in the second phase. The 6km road connecting the terminal with BDL road is being undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Investment Corporation under Central Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure," he added.
