BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday stayed CBI probe into the murder of Mangalore-based human rights activist and advocate Naushad Kashimji, who defended the alleged Chota Shakeel-aide, Rasheed Malbari . A single bench of the HC had ordered a CBI probe while hearing a petition seeking CBI probe into Naushad’s murder and the alleged involvement of the police.Police submitted a memo in the court stating that the police department is able to investigate the case, if the case gets handed over to the CBI, faith on the police department will fade away, it had contended. The court ordered a stay on the CBI probe and directed the police department to investigate the case. When the probe did not make headway, the wife of the accused filed a writ petition seeking CBI probe into the matter. Naushad was murdered outside his apartment in Mangalore on April 9, 2010. Naushad’s senior, Purushottam Pujary had lodged a complaint with Pandeshwar police accusing four police officers of killing him.
