New Delhi: Just two days after a boy in Delhi died due to alleged police delay, there has been another case of molestation and alleged police apathy. Activist and former chairperson of the National Commission for Women Mohini Giri has slammed the Delhi Police for refusing to help a young girl.
Giri claims she saw a young girl being molested by a group of men in South Delhi. She got out of the car to help the girl but was thrashed by the men.
She said that she tried to stop a passing PCR van, but the driver refused to intervene and said the official was busy. Giri said that she then stopped a constable who was passing by on a two-wheeler. He asked her to register an FIR.
Giri has now refused to do that. "I saw the girl was being beaten mercilessly. I tried to stop the fighting. A lady came running towards me and started beating me. I stopped a PCR van and said please save me. The driver got down from the van and said his boss had to go somewhere urgently and he had to go," she said.
"Then I stopped a beat constable and asked for helped. He said that I should rather lodge an FIR," she added.
However, the police have refuted all allegations made by Giri saying the facts have been misinterpreted completely. The police say there was no molestation but an accident case which the police were looking into.
"Perhaps Mrs Giri did not understand the incident. Two boys were on a scooter and two girls were following on another scooter. One of the boys was the real brother of one of the girls. The boy met with the accident. Someone took one of the injured boys to the hospital. Then a PCR van came to the spot and was helping the boy and two girls standing there. The inquiry has revealed that the wife of one of the injured perhaps got into a confrontation with Giri," said DCP Rajeev Ranjan.
