Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said there was an urgent need to chalk out a policy to rehabilitate the released militants in the state.
"There is an urgent need to work out a policy to rehabilitate them (released militants)," Omar told reporters in reply to a question about the verification drive of former militants launched by police.
He said the verification drive was a regular process to know about what the ex-militants were doing.
Details were sought about the former militants to create a data base of their education and skills so that a package can be formulated for them.
"We are now trying to establish a baseline. How educated they are, what sort of skills they have, what sort of avenues they can be employed in. When this information is available, we can work on a package with the Government of
India," he said.
Omar said if there are any cases against the released and surrendered militants, the law will take its own course.
