New Delhi: A day after an Intelligence Bureau report called the NGO Greenpeace a threat to national economic security, NGOs have slammed the report calling it false. Greenpeace has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs for permission to see the report.
The report also adds that Greenpeace has violated foreign funding norms by engaging in political activity. It cites the fact that Greenpeace supported the NGO run by Aam Admi Party candidate Pankaj Singh.
The IB report dated June 3 on "foreign-funded NGOs negatively impacting economic development in India" apprised the government that Greenpeace has helped conduct anti-nuclear agitations and mounted "massive efforts to take down India's coal-fired power plants and coal mining activity".
"Why our work has drawn the attention of IB. We are in India since last 11years. We face this accusation in every country that we receive foreign funds but there is no iota of truth in it," said Abhishek Pratap Singh, Greenpeace campaigner.
Former Union Minister Veerappa Moily is of the opinion that not all foreign funding is bad as he said, "there is general atmosphere that the foreign funding is being used for blocking development work but all foreign funding is not bad or all NGOs are not engaged in disruptive work."
