HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Assurances Committee has found that the state official machinery has failed to implement the assurances given in the House by the chief minister and other ministers. The committee, headed by Adala Prabhakar Reddy, has a strength of 32 members including nine special invitees. Reddy is continuing as its chairman for the third consecutive term. The committee reviewed the pending assurances and noticed that the official machinery had failed to implement assurances right from the first Assembly in 1956. It opined that officials’ negligence and some technical reasons led to increase in the pendency of assurances. The committee submitted its report to Assembly speaker N Manohar on Monday and urged him to give right direction for implementation of the assurances given by the government on the floor of the House. In its 120-page report, the committee pointed to officials’ negligence and raised serious objections to government machinery’s attitude in the Assembly.According to the committee chairman, 2,384 assurances given right from the first Assembly to the 12th Assembly are pending. The current Assembly is the 13th. The committee has cleared 122 assurances and examined 202 others in the last few months. The committee report stated that the officials of the respective departments should clear assurances session-wise. The officials should furnish the report to the Assembly on a regular basis. The committee  gave several suggestions in its report to set right the situation.Prabakar Reddy said most of the assurances did not require financial commitments to fulfill.
