DHENKANAL: The civic body’s apathy at clearing garbage piled up on the streets here, despite over 76 dengue positive cases, has irked the locals. Following the recent downpour, water-logged streets are a common sight in the Dhenkanal Town Planning Units. The locals panic as the drains serve breeding grounds for mosquitoes, thanks to the absence of any cleaning or maintenance work by the municipality. Similar is the situation at the Sub-Divisional Veterinary Hospital here. Surrounded by bushes and garbage heaps, the hospital calls for immediate sanitation measures. However, the municipality is yet to act on the appeals of the hospital authorities. Locals alleged that the municipality is keen on collecting taxes than maintaining sanitation. Denying the allegations, Municipal Health Officer BB Nanda said efforts to sanitise the area were underway despite the funds crunch and poor infrastructure.
