BANGALORE: Women and Child Welfare Minister CC Patil asserted that there has been no report of death of children due to malnutrition in the state.Speaking in the Legislative Council in response to a query raised by JD (S) MLC Neeravari, Patil said while it could be a fact that the children may not be getting nutritious food, it is not true that deaths have occurred on account of this.According to Patil, malnutrition is a subject that involves many departments, including health and public welfare departments. In response to a question from Leader of the Opposition C Motamma, Patil said a  fundamental factor for malnutrition among children is the refusal of mothers for breast-feeding their children to the maximum time possible. “I am not blaming mothers, but that is what the study says,” Patil added.Patil said that a policy for nutritious food for children — on the lines of Food Security Act — is on the anvil by the Centre."The guidelines are yet come from the Centre. I assure the members and the people that the state government will play a dynamic role in this project,” the women and child minister added.
