MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has directed to issue notice to State Higher Education Department, based on a Public Interest Litigation, seeking probe into alleged irregularities in admission process of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU). The Bench also directed to send notices to other bodies such as National Council for Teacher Education, the Distance Education Council, authorities of MSU, University Grants Commission and State Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption to probe into the alleged irregularities.According to the PIL filed by M Shanmugam, norms for admitting students for B Ed has been flouted in the academic year 2010-2011 by admitting 376 out of the 500 students from Tamil major, while as per the reservation norms fixed by the State, students of all the major courses should be given equal priority. Stating that no action has been taken by the Higher Education Department despite the submission of the report, the petitioner requested the Bench to issue directions to initiate legal proceedings, apart from directing an independent investigating agency to probe the issue.
