BANGALORE: After facing opposition from Congress and JD(S) councillors, during the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) post budget debate, the ruling party was bombarded by its own councillor, for presenting an ‘unrealistic’ and ‘unscientific’ budget .Chamarajpet councillor, B V Ganesh pointed out that the budget has many unnecessary expenses.During the budget debate on the fourth day, Ganesh said that budget has allotted funds for security purposes.The Deer park has been allotted `7.103 crore, where as `5.34 lakh has been allotted to Kempambudi lake and `30 lakh to Ramanjaneya Gudda.Laser show service in Deer Park has been allotted `1 crore.Budget also stressed on constructing old-age homes at the cost of `3 crore.“Instead of giving priority to such things, more funds should have been given to basic amenities,” the councillor suggested in the debate.Ganesh also attacked BBMP official stating that while the Palike managed to collect `1.383 crore through shop rents during 2009-10, in 2010-11 it only managed to collect `1 crore.“There is a decrease in the amount collected.I can prove to the Council that because of the officials, Palike has failed to collect funds in at least 15 instances and the amount collected has come down compared to the previous years.Commissioner should keep track of the officials and their work,” he added.He also blamed the Chief Accounts Officer for misleading the Taxation and Finance Standing Committee.Prior to Ganesh’s speech, Senior councillor from Congress M Nagaraj told the Mayor that being a woman Mayor, you (Sharadamm) should have given special grants to the women councillors.“BBMP officials do not take women councillors’ words seriously.It would have strengthened women councillors,” he said.He also pointed out that many departments has officials working though there posts are not sanctioned.“We are paying their salaries from tax payers’ money,” the councillor alleged.Nagaraj warned that if the budget is not re-presented, Congress will stage a protest JD(S) Co uncillor R Prakash (Cauverypura) said, “There are seven storm water drains in our ward.In the recent rain, water entered 500 houses.I got just couple of crores, while our neighbouring wards have got `10 to `15 crores.What will I answer my voters?” he asked.Congress councillor, Gunashekar (Jayamahal ward) said that in last year’s budget, BBMP estimated `1,300 crore from the State Government and approved the budget.“Government issued the order, but failed to give funds.Government has not followed its own order,” Gunashekar said.
