Now, Left for de-recognition of BJP
After EC issued a notice to BJP, it is now the Left parties that are baying for the Opposition's blood.

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections are here and BJP is in a tight spot.

After the Election Commission has issued a notice to the party for releasing a controversial twin-CD pack as part of its election campaign, it is now the Left parties that are baying for the Opposition's blood.

The Left parties rubbishing the BJP's claim that the Election Commission has no authority to take such action and challenged the NDA allies to break their silence on the issue.

The top leaders of the CPI, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc came down heavily on the saffron party's reported argument that the EC has no power to derecognise a political party or freeze its symbol because such a path would be detrimental to functioning of parliamentary democracy.

While the Samajwadi Party, Congress, the BSP and Jan Morcha have also intensified the campaign against the BJP on the issue, the Election Commission has extended the hearing on the controversial issue till Wednesday.

"Why are the allies of the NDA-JD(U), the Trinamool Congress and the BJD keeping mum?" CPI-M leaders were quoted by news agency UNI as saying.

They also said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ''has repeatedly claimed that he would distance himself from the BJP's communal agenda. Now he has avoided commenting on the CD".

The CPI-M leaders were further quoted by UNI as saying that the contents of the CD are thoroughly communal, provocative and violative of not only the Election code but even of the country's constitution." The CD had the potential of inciting communal frenzy."

The CD pack, released last Tuesday, is currently under EC perusal and reportedly includes visuals of Godhra carnage and Babri demolition.

The CD was brought out by the state unit in Lucknow apparently as part of saffron party's high-pitched Hindutva campaign for the Assembly elections.
