New Delhi: California Police are still looking for the killers of Indian-origin father-daughter duo - 56-year-old Jayprakash Dhanak and 20-year-old Karishma - whose charred bodies were discovered last Tuesday near their house in Anaheim, California.

The bodies were discovered near a bike trail in Irvine five hours after Karishma’s mother Leela Dhanak was found beaten outside the family's burning home in Anaheim Hills. She had suffered severe injuries in her head and upper body.

While Karishma's body was identified earlier, the coroner confirmed Dhanak’s identity through dental records, Anaheim police officer Rick Martinez said. Karishma's sister Shayona was elsewhere when the attack happened. She is under police protection now.

"We believe we are going to put this puzzle together but we need the public's help for that," Martinez was quoted as saying by agencies.

Leela is hospitalised and her injuries have prevented investigators from speaking to her. "Her injuries are so substantial that we don't believe we are going to talk to her for a long period of time,"

Dhanak had pleaded guilty to charges of mail fraud in 2002 as part of a federal investigation into a multimillion-dollar scheme to defraud the US Postal Service. He served at least five months of a three-year prison sentence and was ordered to pay a $2.5 million fine.
