The two National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plants collapsed on Tuesday due to tripping of all units following disturbances in the Eastern Grid.
Official sources said the two power plants collapsed after 1 pm.
While one of the six units was activated by evening, NTPC-Kaniha officials were hopeful of resuming the remaining units by midnight. Although Talcher Thermal Power Plant (TTPS) had resumed three units (each 60 MW) by 7 pm, they again collapsed following disturbances in the Eastern Grid. Officials said works are underway to resume generation in all the units.
While NTPC-Kaniha has six units generating 3,000 MW per day, the TTPS also has six units, but with installed capacity of just 460 MW. The TTPS has been dedicated to Gridco.
