The villagers of Khandwa have been protesting for 15 days against raising the height of the dam, standing neck-deep in water.
Khandwa: It has been 15 days since the villagers of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh began their protest standing in neck-deep water against raising the height of the Omkareshwar Dam that threatens to submerge and wash away their homes.
The protests are being led by the activists of the Narmada Bachao Andolan, who will be meeting several ministers on Saturday.
It has been over a year since the Supreme Court asked the state government to rehabilitate and compensate the villagers. But nothing has been done so far.
The activists say that the dam's water level now stands at 193 meters which could destroy the livelihoods of more than 50,000 people.
