CHENNAI: The first bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday reserved its orders on a batch of writ petitions from traders in T Nagar area to remove the seal and lock put by the Chennai Corporation and the CMDA.The bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam reserved the orders after listening to the elaborate arguments advanced by counsel for the traders, most of whom were senior advocates drawn from New Delhi and Advocate-General A Navaneethakrishnan and others. On behalf of J Srinivasan and 11 others, all having shops at number 75 Ranganathan Street and involved in different public utility services, senior advocate P Wilson contended that the building in which the shops were situated was constructed more than 50 years ago, after complying with the rules and regulations prevailing then. There was no violation of any rule regulating construction of buildings. The shops were sealed without affording any opportunity to the traders. Their business was adversely affected and festivals were fast approaching, Wilson pointed out.
