Karnataka State Organic Farming Mission is planning a Sankranthi gift for farmers by setting up state-of-the-art organic product outlets across 30 districts of the state simultaneously.
Proximity of the consumers and farmers will increase with this market interface as there will be no middlemen in the distribution chain.
These outlets aim at reducing the prices of the organic produce.
The absence of the farmers from the current distribution channel will be overcome under the new set-up.
All the outlets will be inaugurated simultaneously on the Sankranthi day.
Speaking to Express on Sunday, A S Anand, Chairman of the Karnataka State Organic Farming Mission and Amrutabhoomi Implementation Committee, said, “On a pilot basis, we have allocated `5 crore for this purpose and the products being sold there are purely organic.
” “The idea behind setting up of these outlets is to ensure that organic products reach the end consumers directly at affordable prices.
With absence of the middlemen, the profits can be directly taken by the farmers”, he claimed.
“Organic products have become fancy items today.
The new chain stores will take these products to the common man, who is also longing to use these products”, said Anand.
A m r u t h a b h o o m i Project Karnataka Amruthabhoomi Yojana Implementation Committee would plan to expand the area under organic farming to 4 lakh hectares by the year end and cover 5.
28 lakh families under this scheme at a cost of `200 crore.
Apart from this, the funds would be provided to farmers for the construction of cowsheds, setting up of gobar gas plants and purchasing of equipment, he explained.
A sum of `2 crore has been set aside in the budget for the farmers on field visits and `5 crore for improving the processing of organic products.
Over exposure to chemical fertilisers has made the fertile land barren and organic farming is the only resort to bring the soil back to form, he claimed.
“The motto of mission is to bring more farmers under the organic farming net,” he noted
