HYDERABAD: After a gap of few months, pro-Telangana organisations and parties have given a bandh call in the state on Monday, protesting the desecration of Ambedkar statues in various parts of the state. The bandh call was initially given by a splinter group of Osmania University Joint Action Committee which later got the support of other JACs and political parties.“The government should arrest all those involved in the desecration of Ambedkar statues,’’ OUJAC leader Marri Anil Kumar said. The OUJAC leaders met TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday and sought his party’s support for the state-wide bandh. A round table was organised on Sunday which was attended by leaders of various organisations and political parties including TRS, BJP, TDP and Left parties. The leaders have extended their support to the bandh call. Though the previous bandh calls given by OUJAC have not evincing good response, police are anticipating trouble this time as majority of political parties have extended their support. Moreover, all splinter groups of OUJAC have joined hands and are likely to make the bandh a success, police said.Meanwhile, TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu extended his support to the OUJAC bandh.“The damage to the statues is a result of groups within the Congress. It is an insult to the leader and we extend our support to the bandh,’’ he said.
