New Delhi: Indian Railways have posted over 12 per cent growth in revenue between April and August this year, earning Rs 61,324.64 crore as compared to Rs 54,496.73 crore earned during the same period last year.
"The earnings on originating basis stood at 12.53 per cent," an official release said. Revenue earnings from passengers during the period were Rs 17,700.16 crore as compared to Rs 14,758.01 crore during the same period last year.
Total numbers of passengers booked were 3508.68 million compared to 3467.60 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.18 per cent, the release said. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period was 1932.83 million and 1575.85 million respectively, it said.
