Almost all A-listers in Bollywood have heated up the screen with their steamy item numbers and the scene is no different down the south. But in Mollywood lead ladies flaunting their curves and adding the oomph quotient was never an ‘in thing’. It comes as a surprise that M-Town’s recent entrant to the league is none other than Padmapriya. The actress is all set to shed her demure image and scorch the screen with her sizzling hot item song in Amal Neerad’s upcoming film ‘Bachelor’s Party’.
“I have no inhibitions or reservations regarding item songs. When Amal offered me a role in his third film I asked him ‘why don’t you give me an item number?’. I never thought he would take that seriously,” she laughs.
The actress, whose most 70mm avatars were confined to six-yards, is all excited about her item number. “I love dancing and I thoroughly enjoyed doing the song. The whole sequence was filmed in one-and-a half day. The song has nothing to do with the storyline. It plays with the end credits when all the good and bad characters in the film come together on the screen. I have no clue about the film or it’s plot and the song is not a part of the film,” she says.
The actress also adds that the song ‘Kappa kappa kappa puzhukk, chakka chakka chakkavaratti’ is essentially mallu in character and is slightly ‘hatke’ from its Bollywood counterparts. But she agrees her costumes will be in-sync with the character of the song. “Of course I am wearing a short skirt, something that goes with the tempo of the song. You can’t expect me to wear a Kanjeevaram and shake a leg,” she says.
Padmapriya says the concept of glamour is highly relative and varies from industry to industry. “Wearing a western dress or micro mini will not turn you into a glamour goddess by default. It’s more of an attitude than what you wear. You can be wearing a sari and still look hot and sexy. Personally I hate wearing saris though I have worn them in majority of my films. As an actress I am open to all kinds of costumes, if the script demands I have no issues donning even a bikini. While signing a film my primary concern will be the character,” she says.
The actress who was last seen in Mammootty-starrer ‘Cobra’ is equally upbeat about her new MT-Hariharan film ‘Ezhamathe Varavu’. She was also part of the team’s last venture ‘Pazhassiraja’ and her role as a fiery tribal girl garnered much appreciation and accolades. “There is no point in drawing parallels between the two films. You cannot compare ‘Ezhamathe Varavu’ to any other films and as of now I cannot reveal anything about its storyline or subject. The film has a very beautiful script and even I am looking forward to the filming,” she signs off.
